In 2006, Bovellas was sold again, to Ralph Bencivenga, a Bovella's employee for over twenty-one years at the time. Ralph started at the age of 16 as a dishwasher. While working as a dishwasher, Ralph's passion for the baking and pastry industry flourished, inspiring Mr. Bove to send him to baking and pastry school. In 1989, upon finishing school, Ralph returned to Bovella's as a full-time baker. Over the years, Ralph worked his way up until he finally had the opportunity to purchase the bakery.
Even though ownership has changed hands, our principle have remained the same. We have a long history as a family-oriented bakery, using only the freshest ingredients in all of our products. Many of the staff has remained the same. Behind the counter, you can still see Ann Mullen, who has worked for the bakery for over 29 years. Prisco Scirocco, who is currently the head baker, has worked for Bovellas since 1979. He also started as a dishwasher and has worked his way up.
There have been a few new additions to the staff at Bovellas , including Rob Weinberger who started over 2 years ago. Bovellas has also added a talented new baker and cake decorator, Bobby Fischer, formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bovellas goal has always remained the same: to offer customers what they want. For instance, at holidays we offer special selections celebrating the occasion. We can scan a favorite photograph to place on your cake. We now have soft serve ice cream, gelato, sorbet and a large selection of coffee drinks! And gift certificates are always available which make a perfect gift. As of mid-2009, Bovella's Pastry Shoppe is now under the Kosher Supervision of Rabbi Isaiah Hertzberg.
